A BUS and a lorry were used to block the road at the scene of a serious accident which police said could easily have resulted in fatalities.

Heysham Road was closed for hours on Sunday after a silver Renault Laguna, travelling towards Heysham Power Station was involved in a head on collision with a maroon Citroen Picasso taxi travelling on the opposite side of the road towards Morecambe.

Debris was strewn over several hundred metres and police who attended said it was a “scene of devastation.”

Four men were injured in the crash, which happened just after 9am on Sunday.

Both drivers were trapped in their cars and were cut free by Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service.
