Four hospitalised after drug-driving crash near Lancaster

Four people have been rushed to hospital after a crash in the village of Nether Kellet near Carnforth overnight.

An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving after he tested positive for a roadside drug wipe following the crash in Scargill Road at around 3am.

His four injured passengers were taken to hospital, with two having to be rescued by fire crews who had to cut the roof of the Citroen C1 to free them.

Lancashire Road Police tweeted: "Collision near Nether Kellet overnight. 18-year-old driver arrested positive drug wipe.

"His four passengers all injured and through to hospital thanks to Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service and North West Ambulance Service."

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service added: "Two fire engines from Lancaster and Carnforth attended a road traffic collision involving one car on Scargill Road in Nether Kellet.

"Firefighters used cutting and stabilisation equipment to extricate two casualties from the vehicle, who were treated by ambulance crews."

North West Ambulance Service have been approached for comment.
