Town Crier: Hovering around seeds of a great idea

Hovercraft.
Hovercraft.

It sounds amazing doesn’t it? A hovercraft service linking Heysham to other UK ports and perhaps further afield. Lets hope this is the germ of something that could actually happen and be a huge boon to the area. This only at the discussion stage but should be supported wholeheartedly. Anything that brings visitors to Morecambe is to be welcomed with open arms and dare I say it, this idea sounds workable.

We had mixed feedback to last week’s front page story ‘Morecambe on the up’. Some of you hailed the positive news for the town, others were more circumspect that it may be another false dawn, or that the projects in the pipeline to improve things around here don’t go far enough. But it’s great to hear more news of private investment in the town this week.Hot on the heels of the opening of the new Temperance Club barber shop, part of a £750,000 renovation of the eyesore former Office building, comes the expansion into the former Alhambra of Gerry’s Fishing Tackle. Gerry’s is a thriving local family business; we featured them in The Visitor last year, so it’s no surprise to hear they’re doing so well . Angling itself is big business, both locally and further afield. And it has a rich history in the town. Look out for more on our fishing scene in the coming weeks.
