There was plenty to like about the way our town welcomed back its most famous son this week.
Eric Morecambe’s statue returning to the promendade means all is again right with our fair resort.
It was December, so no one in their right mind was hoping for the weather to be kind, not that it mattered.
The famous comic’s family making the trip gave the whole event a feel of ceremony and what lovely people they are to boot.
The celebrations continued into the weekend with Morecambe and Luton playing for the Eric Morecambe Trophy at the Globe Arena.
The atmosphere matched the occasion , helped by a big Shrimps victory, and a lot of credit should not only be offered to the home fans but also the 700 plus happy Hatters who made the long trip up.
I’m sure all at the Globe Arena will have been delighted about how it turned out.
It isn’t the last big-game feel that Shrimps chiefs will be hoping for in 2014 with Carlisle set to sell out their 1,700 plus allocation for the Boxing Day clash.
It means the club are looking towards possibly attracting their record crowd for a Football League game.
A crowd of 4,761 witnessed the game against Bradford in October 2007 and with Boxing Day a real tradition with some families, who knows?
