The Grammar School has moved up 30 places since last year in the Sunday Times chart.

According to the newspaper, LRGS is the top boys’ state boarding school in the North of England and the seventh highest nationally. There are 37 state boarding schools across the UK. The all-boys school achieved its best ever A-level grades in 2014 (78.2% grades A* to B).

Dr Chris Pyle, head master, said: “I am delighted that our pupils’ achievements have been recognised in this way, and that we are known so widely as one of the most successful schools in the UK.”
