A sculpture of Dame Thora Hird sitting on a bench could form the centrepiece of a revamped town centre.
Campaigners are pushing for Morecambe’s favourite daughter to be honoured as part of roadworks planned near the Arndale next year.
The estimated cost of the statue would be around £25,000.
Supporters would ask for public donations to help fund it.
Plans are already in the works for a major remodelling of the junction of Market Street and Victoria Street, to be known as Royalty Place.
This would be named after Morecambe’s former Royalty Theatre, where the actress and comedienne first trod the boards as a young girl.
