Teacher training workshop in Lancaster

The workshop, hosted by the National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL), will provide help and support for the increasing number of potential trainees who have already registered their interest in teacher training.

In the North West alone, over 9,000 people have registered their interest in this academic year – up over 34% on last year and up over 76% on 2013.

Those attending the free workshop will get the chance to receive one-to-one feedback from teaching experts on their application and personal statement, attend a presentation to get helpful tips on making their applications stand out, and talk to teachers about their experience of getting into teaching.

The application workshop will take place at Lancaster House, Green Lane, Ellel, Lancaster, LA1 4GJ, from 6pm to 8pm.

With only three months to go before the start of the new school year in September, NCTL is encouraging all those who have registered their interest in teacher training to complete their application soon.

Popular courses are continuing to fill up, but there are still places available and applicants can improve their chance of securing the place they want by applying early in the summer term.

“Our application workshop is open to everyone who has registered their interest in teacher training and looking to start their teacher training in September 2015.

“In particular, we hope people who wish to change careers, who may not necessarily have the careers support graduates have access to, will find the workshops helpful.”

Last year 40% of those who registered their interest in teacher training in the North West said they were career changers, showing the popularity of teaching among those at a later stage in their careers, as well as graduates.

Bursaries and scholarships worth up to £25,000 tax free are currently being offered to trainees who choose to teach priority subjects including maths, physics, chemistry, design and technology, languages and computing.

Applicants can also apply for a place on a ‘subject knowledge enhancement’ course (SKE) to refresh their knowledge and build their confidence before applying for a teaching training positon.
