Staff at a Morecambe supermarket have pledged their support to local disabled children’s charity, Unique Kidz and Co, which provides after school and holiday clubs and other services for disabled children and their families.

Unique Kidz was chosen from three other charities that applied, because store colleagues felt a great partnership could be established over the year and thought that the charity was well organised and run.

Shane Fisher, a Colleague Council Representative at Sainsbury’s Morecambe said: “We are proud to have chosen Unique Kidz and Co as our Charity of the Year.

“Together, we have already planned a full calendar of events including, fun days, a Morecambe Bay Cross Bay Walk, a fashion show and a number of the team are hoping to do the Wrynose or Bust Cycle Challenge.

“This is a truly unique charity and we are looking forward to developing our partnership with Unique Kidz and Co throughout the year ahead.”

Jane Halpin, Co-Founder of Unique Kidz and Co said: “We are delighted that Sainsbury’s Morecambe chose to support our charity.

“We are really looking forward to working closely with the team. Their support will be important in helping us raise the £150,000 we need to raise each year to continue our work.”

The charity is also celebrating a successful Race Night held at Morecambe Golf Club on June 14 which raised over £1300 for the charity, with over 100 guests, a number of races, an auction and raffle.

The evening was supported by Barclays Bank in Morecambe which is hoping to match fund the final amount raised.

Jane Halpin said: “Our first ever charity race night was a really fun evening and a great fundraising success, thanks to all our business sponsors, guests and Morecambe Golf Club.

“Our next big event is the charity’s Annual Ball in November which will be held at Lancaster Brewery in Lancaster Leisure Park.

“Last year this was a sell-out event and we are now looking for business sponsors for this event which raised over £13,500 for the charity last year.”
