Twelve of the successful thirteen candidates attended the evening event with their families to learn about what to expect from the apprenticeship scheme and the standards expected of them.

John Munro, Heysham 2’s plant manager, welcomed the group alongside existing apprentices Amy Marchment, Alex Paterson, Sophie Davison and last year’s apprentice of the year Josh Smith who shared their experiences of the scheme both on site and at HMS Sultan.

More than 240 people applied for the 13 apprenticeship places at Heysham site alone, of which 48 were interviewed.

The group will officially start work in August before heading off on an Outward Bound team building event with apprentices from across the fleet. Their training begins on September 8 at HMS Sultan.

Kevin Demain, apprentice co-ordinator for Heysham power stations said: “This was a great opportunity to meet the successful candidates again and ensure that are prepared and understand what will be required of them once they start their apprenticeships and their careers with EDF Energy.

“The apprentices spend the majority of their first two years at HMS Sultan. For many of them this is their first real job and we support them in this transition from school and college into work.

“We see them develop and grow as individuals as they begin to understand the way we work in EDF Energy and the attitudes and behaviours that they need to display.

“It’s great to see the results and every year I’m extremely proud to see the end product and the contribution they make to Heysham power stations and EDF Energy. I’m sure this group will be just as successful.”

Applications for the 2016 apprentice starts in the autumn, all career opportunities are on: http://www.edfenergy.com/careers.
