Students wow audience with glamorous catwalk showcase

After weeks of planning, students and their models spent a busy day preparing elaborate hair pieces and costumes.

The make-up designs were created and implemented by Media Make-up tutor Sophie Du Freyer who had seized the opportunity to take part in her first production at the college, assisted by very able student Sophie Purcell.

The showcase was used as a platform to demonstrate some of the skills and techniques the students have learnt over the past two years at college.

Guests were welcomed with drinks and canapés the reception of the brand new hair and beauty therapy salons, due to be officially opened on June 9, before enjoying a show in the college theatre on the theme of “Time Machine”.

Models had been styled following four themes to take the audience on a journey through time, starting with Prehistoric and followed by 17th Century, 20th Century and Futuristic.

Programme area manager for Hair and Beauty Therapy, Zoe Petrou, said: “This successful event was a fantastic opportunity for our learners to showcase their skills, imagination and creativity which they did to a very high standard.”

Head of Faculty Karen Pecsvaradi said: “I was immensely proud of the professional level of skills shown.

“They have incredible futures in the industry awaiting them. Everyone demonstrated great imagination and flair in the work that they produced.

“The show also relies on a great deal of commitment on the part of the staff team, who put in hours of preparation and support for the students.”

The event had a raffle held in aid of St John’s Hospice, with £62 being raised on the night, and fabric for the costumes was kindly supplied by Standfast & Barracks.
