The road may be closed but we’re still open for business, says a frustrated pub landlord.

Stephen Hunt of The Golden Ball at Snatchems is worried motorists think his pub is shut because of nearby electrical works.

Road signs at the roundabout leading to the pub are “misleading”, claims Mr Hunt.

“People could be put off coming,” he said. “We have had cancelled bookings because people think they cannot drive down the road not to mention lost trade.

“This is not fair. They should have consideration for small businesses when erecting signage.”

Andy Ashcroft, highways manager for Lancaster, said: “The road closures needed by Electricity North West are essential for safety while carrying out their maintenance programme to the electricity supply for the Overton area.

“We’ve liaised with the contractor on behalf of the Golden Ball to ask them to use signs which let people know that businesses are open as usual and to consider removing road ahead closed signs when they’re not needed as the work progresses.”

The contractors will place signs on and around the roundabout at Moss Lane to say the pub remains open.
