Sowing the seeds for the community

The library may be renowned for sowing the seeds of knowledge through books but a new scheme plans to provide seeds of the garden variety.

Anyone who wants to grow food or flowers in their own garden or allotment will benefit from Lancaster’s new seed library, which launches this Saturday at Lancaster central library.

The library will hopefully become a great local resource, open to the Lancaster community, making free seed available and teaching local people the art of seed saving.

The six core volunteers of the Seed Library project will be available at the launch event, and throughout the lifetime of the Seed Library, to give advice and help with seed saving.

The library will act as a hub around which local growers and community groups can meet and swap seeds as well as ideas, challenges and dreams.

In addition to the seed library cabinet in Lancaster’s Central library, organisers aalso plan to establish raised beds for bulking up seeds and running workshops at Claver Hill community farm.

So why not pop into Lancaster’s Central library- on Saturday, June 6, at 10.30am to find out more about the seed library?
