Southend United are set to bring a bumper following as they look to secure promotion when they face Morecambe at the Globe Arena on Saturday.

Around 2,400 fans are expected in the resort with 90 arriving in style after the Shrimpers announced a plane and coach package on Monday.

The group will pay in the region of £250 each to be flown to Manchester with a coach taking them the rest of the way to the match.

Demand means Morecambe have decided to open up the North Terrace, usually reserved for home fans, to travelling supporters, increasing the Southend allocation by a further 600.

Phil Brown’s side are third in League 2 and know a first ever victory over the Shrimps will seal automatic promotion.

Shrimps general manager Mark Dixon said: “Last weekend’s results meant we saw this one coming.

“After consulting the relevant safety personnel regarding the number of Southend fans that might travel on the day, we have agreed to open the North Terrace to away supporters for this one-off situation.”
