A blind ex-serviceman has thanked Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for blind ex-servicemen and women, for its support through his battle against sight loss.

Vernon Cocks, from Carnforth, lost his sight as a result of age-related macular degeneration.

Following this he was able to become a member of Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for blind ex-service personnel that supports blind veterans, regardless of when they served or how they lost their sight.

Vernon said: “The charity really has opened up a whole life to me.

“I remember when I first met one of the charity’s members who told me that there is no such word as can’t, and I feel this now myself also.

“It has also been a fantastic experience meeting others like me.”
