Morecambe’s Seaside Festival promises a theatrical extravaganza and is the only way to round off the summer holidays.

Packed with a feast of entertainment from internationally acclaimed Covent Garden-esque street theatre to daring stunt plane displays and a spectacular firework display lighting up the sky above Morecambe Bay, the action takes place on Saturday, August 31 and Sunday, September 1.

Throughout the weekend the promenade and beaches will be transformed into a theatre of street performance, with incredible acts including international renowned escapologist and comedy street performer Rob Roy Collins.

Rob recently set a Guinness World Record in Niagara Falls, Canada, for the fastest upside down escape from cling wrap, suspended 20m high from a crane. He’ll be joined by Britain’s Got Talent finalists, Faces of Disco with their comedy dance act and Granny Turismo, the world’s first and only shopping trolley dance display team.

The Saturday evening will come to a spectacular end with a fireworks display over Morecambe Bay. This will be visible from along the seafront and promenade so there’ll be plenty of fantastic viewing points for everyone.

Sunday will be another day of colour, fun and top class entertainment with additional world class street theatre entertainment, music and performance.

But the afternoon will bring one of the highlights of the weekend with not one but two new spectacular flying displays, including a unique blend of classic nostalgia and exhilarating close formation flying by the Trig Aerobatic Team at 1pm.

This will be followed at 3.30pm by Gerald Cooper, an award-winning pilot who holds numerous British National Aerobatic titles and is repeatedly ranked in the top ten at world championships with his breathtaking performances and daring manoeuvres.

The weekend boasts many other key attractions over the weekend including:

n Duggie Chapman, presenting his new show at the Platform - a film compilation celebrating the music hall stars who played the Winter Gardens in its heyday.

n On Saturday and Sunday evenings, Live at LICA will present ‘SeaBreeze’ in the Winter Gardens itself, a collaborative piece celebrating this much-loved landmark

n There will also be a children’s area offering a whole host of sports, games and activities for families to enjoy.

n At the Platform on Sunday afternoon, Cash in the Attic’s Paul Hayes will present a series of talks on antiques and the chance to put an interesting antique under the spotlight. Paul will then host an antiques auction in aid of St John’s Hospice before getting ready to take part in the Platform’s evening event featuring vintage music from four decades - ‘Rock Back the Clock’.
