School is onto a winner

A class from Westgate Primary School has been successful in helping to name a flagship development of new homes in Morecambe.

The winning class received a £100 book voucher which will be used to provide stock for their new library.

The name suggested by the school and chosen by the local council is Globe Drive, as it is adjacent to Morecambe FC’s Globe Stadium.

Globe Drive will see 52 new houses, eight bungalows and 30 apartments being built by January 2017 in the heart of Morecambe.

The £8.5m flagship scheme is being developed by Chorley Community Housing part of the Adactus Housing Group in partnership with Construction Partnership UK (CPUK), Lane Ends Developments and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) that contributed £3.2m worth of funding.

Other consultants involved in the delivery of the scheme include Paddock Johnson Architects, Bell Munro Consulting Engineers and Markhams.

This is the largest single scheme to be developed by the association, and is fully supported by Lancaster City Council because of the significant contribution it will make to increasing the availability of affordable housing in a central location in the town.

The competition to come up with a road name for the new development was organised by CPUK’s project manager Dave Trueman, the contractor responsible for the site.

Bill Metcalfe, construction manager for CPUK, and Karen Lee, project manager at Adactus, joined staff and pupils at Westgate Primary School to present them with the £100 book voucher.

Karen Lee said: “We are excited to be working in partnership with Lancaster City Council and the HCA on the delivery of such a high profile scheme. Globe Drive will provide much needed quality new homes in Morecambe.”

Dave Trueman for CPUK said: “We wanted to engage the local community to be part of the development and felt that by letting the local primary school choose the road name it would have a lasting contribution.”

The pupils will also be invited to have their picture taken with the name in place once the scheme is handed over in January 2017.
