ROYAL VISIT: Queen to arrive in Lancaster by Royal Train

Her Majesty will greet crowds at Lancaster Railway Station before visiting Lancaster Castle.

Staff at the station are working hard to ensure the Queen’s arrival is a pleasant one.

People may have the chance to catch a glimpse of the Royal Train when it enters the station early Friday morning.

The carriages are a distinctive maroon with red and black coach lining and a grey roof.

The carriages available include the royal compartments, sleeping, dining and support cars.

The Queen’s saloon has a bedroom, bathroom and a sitting room with an entrance which opens onto the platform.

The first Royal Train journey took place on 13 June 1842, when the engine Phlegethon, pulling the royal saloon and six other carriages, transported Queen Victoria from Slough to Paddington.

A spokesman for Virgin Trains said: “We are immensely excited and honoured to be receiving the Queen.

“This is a special occasion for everyone working in the station and we’ll be doing our best to ensure that the day is a success for everyone involved.

“Lancaster is one of the most beautiful stations on the UK rail network and we’ll make sure it is looking its best. The train station will remain operational and we are not anticipating any delays or amendments to services as a result of the Queen’s visit.”
