Residents are being asked to help shape proposals for redeveloping an iconic resort hotel.

McCarthy & Stone is proposing to redevelop The Broadway Hotel onMarine Road East, Morecambe into high-quality accommodation specifically designed for people in later life.

Stephen Norfolk, owner of the Broadway Hotel said “Regrettably we continue to see a downturn in Morecambe’s traditional coaching market, the viability of which we depend upon to maintain such large premises. Over the past few years we’ve been looking at alternative options for its future, and redevelopment is the practical option.”

The Broadway Hotel already has planning permission for an eight storey apartment block, but McCarthy & Stone’s proposals would see a reduction in height to the previously approved planning application.

Their current plans would also introduce an under croft car park which will allow for professional landscaping around the site, providing an enhanced outlook for both residents and passers-by.

McCarthy & Stone has held preliminary meetings with immediate neighbours and local stakeholders to discuss the early proposals and, where possible, will incorporate these views into their plans.

A public exhibition will also be held in September for the wider community to attend and view McCarthy & Stone’s plans. Steve Secker, Regional Managing Director for McCarthy & Stone Northern Region said: “We’re keen to develop a scheme which positively contributes to the local community.”
