Vincent Wright pointed outthe council, who are also replacing lights along the Promenade, had left the bracket from the old ring stand still in the ground. Mr Wright also questioned why the council had used black tarmacadam on a red promenade after carrying out the work at Sandylands. “It beggars belief,” he said. A council spokesman said: “ A schedule of work to replace the lights from the Battery to Whinnysty Lane is currently underway. Localised areas of red tar macadam at the footings have to be replaced with temporary blacktop. Defective lifebelts and lifebelt stands are replaced as a matter of priority. The old bracket will be removed.”
