Record levels of arts cash for Morecambe
Morecambe and Lunesdale has enjoyed record levels of arts funding over the past three years, says a top minister.
Ed Vaizey MP, Minister for Culture, Communications and Creative Industries, said Arts Council England has backed projects in the Morecambe area to the tune of more than £590,000 since 2013.
Mr Vaizey cited as examples the Lancaster Arts Partnership First Fridays project – which sees arts and entertainment take place across many venues in the district one Friday every month.
He also mentioned the Mirrored Minds performance by local dance company Turnaround Dance Theatre which received a £4,781 grant in January 2015.
Other grants awarded by Arts Council England locally during the past year include £14,178 to artist Linder Sterling for her ballet ‘Children of the Mantic Stain’, £15,000 to Morecambe Town Council for the Victoria Street Press street art project, and more than £150,000 to More Music for an integrated programme of inclusive music making and performance.
The minister was replying to a written Parliamentary question by David Morris, MP for Morecambe, who said he was “delighted” at the news.
