The bad weather in Morecambe this weekend won’t put off thousands from attending the second day of Morecambe Carnival today.

Huge crowds are expected for the parade of carnival floats along Morecambe Promenade, starting at 1.30pm, followed by a pop concert in the Bay Arena with around 30 acts performing, and a fireworks display finale.

Weather forecasters are predicting the rain will ease later this afternoon in time for live music by the likes of 1990s boy band 911, X Factor winner Shayne Ward, boy band Stereo Kicks, 12-year-old Britain’s Got Talent sensation Henry Gallagher and Lancaster’s own Paul Akister.

Music is due to get under way on The Bay radio stage at around 3.30pm and performances will go through until around 9pm.

On Saturday, Morecambe seafront was busy as crowds braved the drizzle to watch an It’s A Knockout-style outdoor game show, and an aerial display by a Dakota plane. The scheduled Hurricane and Spitfire planes did not appear due to the bad weather.

Other attractions included a sandcastle-building competition and an appearance by soap actor brothers Ryan and Adam Thomas, who play Jason Grimshaw in Coronation Street and Adam Barton in Emmerdale respectively.
