A popular Morecambe pub will be demolished if a new retail park is built on the Frontierland site – but not for the foreseeable future.

The Ranch House Bar will be replaced by a new family pub if the £17m complex gets the go-ahead. But the Ranch could stay open for years yet, as no timescale has been announced for the development.

In the meantime, landlord Robert Ellershaw has signed a lease extension with owners Morrisons and said it was business as usual at the Marine Road West pub.

Mr Ellershaw, who has run the pub with his wife Debbie since 2008, has held talks with Morrisons over the future of the site.

“On the first occasion we discussed the long-term vision for the site and specifically talked about the proposals for a family pub on the existing site of the Ranch House, and discussed lease opportunities on the new site.” he said.

“On the second occasion, we renewed our lease. We are now planning a refurbishment of the games and family room. The long-term development plans are exciting and we’re happy to be involved.”

Morrisons bought the Ranch House from Blackpool Pleasure Beach in the summer, meaning they now own the entire site of the former theme park.
