Praise for Lancaster hospital after floods

Teams worked round the clock to keep generators going at the RLI during the lengthy power cuts earlier this month.

Staff worked extra hours to look after patients and some went above and beyond the call of duty to even get into work despite the closure of bridges and roads under water.

David Morris, MP for Morecambe and Lunesdale, heard about the efforts of the RLI team during a visit to the hospital.

“I was able to hear stories of how staff managed to get into work when the bridge was closed,” said Mr Morris.

“Some were even given a lift in with the military.

“I also met the catering staff who stayed above and beyond the call of duty to make sure there was enough food to feed everyone.”

Mr Morris also praised Joann Morse, deputy director of nursing and her colleague Dave Passat, the senior team at the hospital who co-ordinated matters during the ‘major incident’ over the weekend of December 5 and 6.

“They were at work for 26 hours and did not leave until they knew that everyone was safe and the incident had been dealt with,” said Mr Morris.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to all of our wonderful NHS staff who have worked tirelessly to ensure that our patients are still being cared for.

“I will be feeding back all of the stories shared with me to the Government over the coming weeks.”
