Porpoise stranded on Silverdale beach dies

The harbour porpoise became stranded on the beach.

A harbour porpoise that became stranded on the beach between Carnforth and Silverdale sadly died.

A team from Bay Search and Rescue attended the porpoise, but it died on the beach.

The body was recovered and retrieved by an investigation team.

At post mortem the porpoise was found to be a 155cm long adult female in good nutritional condition.

It was also pregnant, with a near full term male foetus in the left uterine horn.

A cause of death is pending following a bacteriological examination.

The porpoise was found on April 8.
