Police searching for a missing Morecambe man have found a body.

The body was discovered in fields close to the River Lune near Hornby Road shortly before midday on Saturday.

Last night Lancashire Police said that while formal identification has yet to be carried out the body is sadly believed to be that of Neil Connelly, 38, who went missing from his home in Morecambe earlier this week.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a post mortem examination will be carried out to try to establish the cause.

The coroner has been informed and Mr Connelly’s next of kin are aware.

They are being supported by specially trained officers.

A spokesman said: “Lancashire Constabulary would like to thank everyone who helped in the search for Mr Connelly. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.”
