Police dog sniffs man out hiding in bed in Lancaster

A man who hid in a bed base to escape police was sniffed out by a police dog.

The man, along with two others, was reported to have taken a BMW from Russell Drive in Lancaster.

The car crashed on Granville Road and the three men ran off to escape police.

Police with their dogs found one of the suspects at a nearby house on Granville Road.

After police threatened to release police dog Kato, a second man gave himself up to officers.

A third man was found by the police dog under a bed.

Lancashire Police Dog unit said on their Facebook page: “Well done to this very new dog team.”

n Two men aged 18, both from Lancaster, were arrested on suspicion of the theft of a vehicle.

A third man aged 19 was arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.

All were released without charge.

The incident happened on December 30.
