Coun John Reynolds, who represents Carnforth and Millhead, said he is pleased with the application and how the developer has worked with the land.

In a design and access statement, the applicant states: “Our vision is to provide an attractive, high quality extension to Carnforth which fits sensitively

within its context, respects the landscape of the area and which creates a sustainable development tailored to contribute towards the housing needs of the district.

“The development will be designed to reduce carbon, save energy, conserve water and enhance biodiversity.

“The development will seek to reflect the best qualities of housing found in the area whilst responding to the need to create a 21st century neighbourhood.”

Coun Reynolds said: “This development is truly appropriate. I’m really pleased with how the developer has worked with the land, acknowledged the flooding risks on the lower levels and intergraded the development into the town with transport and cycling links.

This is exactly the type of development Carnforth needs, and supports sustainability and a drive for economic development.

“With the recent permission granted for the car dealership by the M6, and the focus on Carnforth as a centre of development in the local plan, Carnforth is easily the most interesting part of the district.

“We are very lucky to have a very proactive Town Council and the support of our county councillor. Exciting times ahead for Carnforth!”

The site is bound by the A6, Scotland Road in the west, the River Keer in the north, the Carnforth to Leeds railway line cutting in the south and open

pasture land in the east.

The site abuts existing development in the form of the Netherbeck Holiday Park in the south west and Midland Units, a cluster of offices and light industrial buildings, in the south east.
