Dogs dressed as super heroes took over a Lancaster park at the weekend to raise vital funds for charity.
Sunday morning (March 13) walkies in Williamson Park took on a super twist with the return of the ‘Bark in the Park’ event organised by local charity CancerCare.
More than 90 dogs plus their owners entered a super hero themed sponsored walk and Fun Dog Show which raised more than £1,500 for CancerCare.
Categories included Best Super Hero, Best Biscuit Catcher, Best Haircut, Best Rescue, Waggiest Tail and Best in Show.
Five-year-old Jaya from Lancaster and her pet whippet Woody took the crown for Best Super Hero and Best In Show when they dressed as the amazing Bat-mobile and Robin.
Mum Cherith said: “We just went to have some fun and to support a great cause, we never expected to win! Woody is our two-year-old whippet and an absolute star, we love him to bits.” Teddy and the Drake family came second in the category.
Helen Hartin, CancerCare community fundraiser and Bark in the Park organiser said: “It was lovely seeing so many dog owners and their families coming together in the stunning surroundings of Williamson Park. The Dog Show was great fun, especially the ‘biscuit catching’ category and the walk finished off a very super day! We’d like to thank all the local businesses that showed their support.”
The day also included the opportunity for pooches to try out a fun agility course under the watchful eye of professional dog trainer Sue Parry.
Event sponsors Lanes Vets provided a free dog chipping service, kids face painting and also brought along their Little Pet Ambulance. There was also chance to meet local rescue dogs from Lancaster’s Animal Care re-homing centre and Homey Pet Food were giving out free pet food.
