Petition calls on Government to lift charity badge restriction

Some Metropolitan Police officers were sent an instruction not to wear the charity badge following the death of PC Dave Phillips on October 5, the police federation’s chairman said.

A Met spokesman said the badge was not on the approved list but supervisors could allow it at their discretion.

Councillor Josh Brandwood said: “I am outraged and confused that the Metropolitan Police have restricted officers from wearing the thin-blue line Union Jack badge in memory of fallen colleagues.

“It’s not only important for team morale but also to support the families and close friends of officers. We should support and be proud of our public servants and they should be allowed to grieve.

“In light of this, I have started an official Government e-petition to lift the thin-blue line Union Jack uniform restrictions placed on police officers. Sign the petition here

“I hope the Home Office Secretary responds accordingly and supports officers who put their lives in danger on a daily basis to keep law and order in the communities which they serve.

“Many close friends are serving officers in Lancashire Constabulary and equally, they are disappointed and demand change.”
