The project aims to provide vulnerable children with materials such as colouring sheets, as well as colouring pens, pencils, sharpeners and rubbers to use while playing and learning during the school Christmas holidays.

Children supported via the project are from families who may struggle to afford to buy products to support learning and development while schools are closed.

Many of the sheets offered by the university’s project feature designs from students which feature prominent local landmarks.

The Wilko store management team also donated Wilko vouchers worth £200 towards a Eden project youth prize supported by the University.

Jerome Saint-Marc, Wilko CEO, said: “We’re incredibly proud of and thankful to our team members across the entire business, who have done a phenomenal job in ensuring families have access to the products they need.

"The support our Lancaster team are providing in conjunction with the city’s university is just one example of how our brilliant team members nationwide are going the extra mile to help their local communities during these difficult times – and we truly appreciate their efforts and the difference they make.”

This donation is one of many projects Wilko has undertaken to support communities throughout the Covid-19 crisis.

Other activities include launching a community fund, donating tens of thousands of products to families in need and NHS staff across the UK and enabling members of its Worksop support centre to volunteer for a helpline for elderly people who may feel isolated.
