Roads reopen on White Lund in Morecambe after unexploded bomb found

The cordon was put into place yesterday, Monday, along with several road closures, following reports that an unexploded shell had been found by contractors doing work in the area.

Police closed off part of Northgate at its junction with Whitegate while bomb disposal experts work at the scene.

Lancashire Police said: "EOD [Explosive Ordinance Disposal] attended at around 6pm [on Monday] and after assessing the shell a decision was made to wait until daylight hours to remove it.

"The shell has now been removed from the area and a controlled explosion will be carried out shortly.

"We would like to thank everybody in the area for their patience while we brought this incident to a safe conclusion."
