Morecambe men get on their bikes to cycle length of country for Team Reece

Darren Shepherd, Andrew Hackett, Tom Lynch, James Wilcock, Phil Jenkinson and Luke Parkinson set off at 7am on Monday from the Stone Jetty, heading for Lands End!

They plan to cycle 452 miles over five days, cycling around 10 hours a day.

The men have already smashed their £2,000 target by raising £3,000 before they even hit the pedals.

The group are wearing Team Reece t-shirts for the ride.

The money will go to Team Reece - the charity set up by Overton teenager Reece Holt who died at the age of 13 in 2019 after fighting a cancerous brain tumour for several years.

Team Reece raises awareness and funds for childhood cancer, and the charity has continued in the LRGS pupil's memory.

One of the cyclists, Darren Shepherd, said: "The amazing Team Reece work very hard to support other families who are experiencing childhood cancer.

"They provide free holiday home breaks, financial and emotional support and also intelligent robots (iBots) to young people who can't attend school so they don't miss out on lessons and the social aspect of school.

"With this huge challenge we hope to be able to provide funds towards a second holiday home, more iBots and with the help of Alder Hey a research project to offer less invasive scanning techniques for brain cancer.

"As you can see these things don't come cheap so please dig deep and let's try and make a difference to some young lives."
