Lancaster student is member of University Challenge's 50th final winning team

Lancaster student Owain Burrell was a member of the victorious team in the 50th final of television's University Challenge on Monday.

Owain went to Moorside Primary School and is now studying for a Masters degree in English literature.

He and his colleagues from Warwick University beat their opponents from Magdalene College, Cambridge, by 195 points to 140 in the student quiz presented by Jeremy Paxman on BBC2.

Warwick had won all five of their previous rounds in the competition, for which 130 teams applied.

They received their trophy for becoming series champions from Poet Laureate Simon Armitage.
