Lancaster fashion shop co-owner takes on marathon task to help city hospice

With the country in lockdown many people have sought innovative ways to make use of their time - from singing, dancing and video catch-ups to getting fit or just simply taking a well-earned rest.

But not Tiffany Moore, co-owner of Renes Fashion in Lancaster. Instead, she set herself a mammoth task and took the opportunity to raise the much needed funds for St John’s Hospice.

Starting on Sunday April 26 , Tiffany pledged to run for 2.62 miles every day for 26 days. She is due to end on Thursday May 21.

The 2/6 Challenge was created following the cancellation of the London Marathon, which is one of the biggest one-day annual fundraising events in the world.

This left a huge hole in the St John’s charity income, and so on April 26, what should have been the date of the London Marathon, St John’s asked people to dream up an activity based around the numbers 2.6 or 26, (which relates to the length of a marathon being 26.2 miles), and simply fundraise £26 to St John’s Hospice.

Tiffany said: "St John’s Hospice is important to me with their focus on the quality of living and offering Hospice at Home care.

"I know first hand that my mum Pamela, thanks to St John’s Hospice, was able to have some quality time in her life and stay in the comfort of her own home right to the very end, which meant so much to her and everyone concerned. We will be forever grateful for this.

"I have always enjoyed the challenge of running; it doesn’t matter whether you come first, last or in the middle of the pack, it’s about the feeling and satisfaction in finishing and raising money for a fantastic cause and a memory of a wonderful mum.

"With no preparation, I was concerned that I was confusing ambition with ability but with the encouragement of my friends, my partner Pete and our dogs Toto and Button, I have overcome sprains, sore knees and tiredness to be on track to complete and raise much needed funds for the hospice."

The total currently stands in excess of £1,000 and Tiffany thanks everyone who has encouraged and kindly donated so far.

Through Renes Fashion, Tiffany and her partner Amanda have been keen to show their support for the NHS and key workers through simple gestures such as the weekly updates of Renes shop windows, weekly blue window lighting displays and adorning Renes windows with rainbow drawings created by local children. For each rainbow drawing displayed, Renes are donating £10 to St John’s Hospice.

Amanda said:"It has been a difficult time for people and it is important to try where we can, even the simple things like our Facebook ‘Be like…’ stick figure picture campaign; it’s a small gesture to put a smile on our customers' faces.

"When Tiffany hasn’t been working or running she has been helping Pete and her brother Mark with deliveries of the PPE which they have produced and dispatched for free to thousands of frontline workers."

Renes Fashion, based in Common Garden Street, have missed their customers and look forward to seeing them in store as soon as they can. When they re-open Renes will be adhering to all responsible social distancing guidelines.
