The Lancaster based not-for-profit organisation aims to tackle loneliness and create a space for men of all ages to come together to support each other.

The group had a base at Kanteena in Lancaster but now needs more suitable long-term premises.

David Munro, project coordinator for L.A.D.S said: “Lancaster is a difficult place to find suitable small plots because of the amount of student accommodation development.

“Nearby places such as Preston seem to have far more in the way of small industrial plots available to rent for social enterprises such as ours.”

Because of the Covid restrictions the Menshed members have been working outside mainly using their portable cabin and shipping container to store their tools and equipment.

They are looking for either a piece of land with a minimum area of about 300sqm to house their temporary and portable units so that they can continue working with the six members who have regularly been using the Menshed since they commenced operations, while preparing for the day when they can welcome many more men to participate in the Shed’s activities.

The alternative is to find a suitably sized industrial unit which would mean they would dispense with the portable cabin if it was to be a long-term proposition.

David Munro said: “We currently have partnership projects with the RSPB making approximately 60 Swift nesting boxes for their Lancaster Swift City project which will be rolled out over this summer and also with the Moorlands Community group who want us to make window boxes for them and assist with their plans to beautify their area.

“Our plans to make wall-mounted planters will need to go on hold in the meantime until we have found new premises and can then facilitate more members joining the group.

“While we are looking fortunately we are able to move the Menshed to a local farm and continue to work there temporarily while we continue our search.
