Funeral for Morecambe Lifeboat Hovercraft Commander Harry Roberts to be broadcast online after final journey along prom

The funeral of former Morecambe Lifeboat Hovercraft Commander Harry Roberts is to be held later this week.

Harry Roberts MBE died on April 13 at the age of 62 after a five year battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

As we reported, Harry was 'Mr Hovercraft' at Morecambe RNLI and did a huge amount for the town, saving 77 lives during his 34 years of service.

Due to Covid restrictions his funeral will be for just 30 guests, but his family would like to invite anyone that wishes to show their respects to stand along the promenade at Morecambe.

Harry will take his final journey along the prom on Friday April 30 between 10.15am and 10.30am.

He will travel from Heysham, down Heysham Road and onto Marine Road. He will be saying his final goodbye to Morecambe Lifeboat Station at 10.25am.

His family has asked that everyone adhere to social distancing measures on the prom.

They have also decided to allow anyone who wishes to watch the service to do so via a webcast link from 11am.

On behalf of Harry's family, his daughter Amy said: "We would like to thank everyone for all the tributes, cards and flowers we have received.

"It’s been amazing to read all your memories of my dad."
