Three singers from Morecambe have made the final of a charity talent search – including a pensioner who sang a love song he wrote for his wife.

Ron Carey from Heysham was picked by a panel of judges as one of 12 finalists in the Furness Charity Stars contest after penning ‘Your Love Is Shown in Many Ways’ for his wife Christine.

Ron, 74, was one of more than 30 hopefuls who recorded a video of themselves performing and uploaded it to the Charity Stars website.

They have been whittled down to the final dozen who will appear at the grand final at the Grand Theatre in Lancaster on February 21 2015.

There are also six wild cards. People will have the chance to vote for their favourite two, who will occupy the final spots in the competition.

The wild cards will be announced in January.

Each act has chosen a charity to represent and the winner will receive £1,000 for their cause. Ron will sing on behalf of Megan’s Wish.

The charity was set up by Carl Naylor from Morecambe, whose daughter Megan died after contracting pneumonia. She had cerebral palsy after being born with a knot in her umbilical cord.

Emmie Togneri, 21, from Morecambe, is backing the MIND mental health charity while Lyndsey Atkinson from Heysham is supporting Galloway’s Society for the Blind.

Ella Jones and Lucy Leamy from Dolphinholme are also through to the final and will represent St John’s Hospice.

Other finalists include Megan Forrest from Kendal, who wowed judges with her version of ‘The Cup Song’, Ben Lewis from Ulverston, Faye Anna Bowness from Milnthorpe and friends Nicky Lawless, Elaine Burke and Bob Christie who will bring variety to the final with a unique routine drawn from a US TV show called The Follies.

The competition is run by Furness Building Society and The Bay radio, in association with The Visitor and Lancaster Guardian.

The judging panel was Bill Johnston, Darren Milby and Phil Rodgers from The Bay, The Visitor’s Greg Lambert and Sarah Wane from Furness Building Society.

The winner will also have the chance to record their own video and music session with the Bay.
