A Vauxhall Astra travelling in the direction of Carnforth has collided with a pedestrian, a 72-year-old man from Morecambe, who was crossing the road.

The man was taken to the Royal Lancaster Hospital with head injuries. He remains there in a serious condition.

Sgt Phil Baxendale said: “We are asking anyone who saw what happened, particularly anyone who may have seen pedestrian along Parliament Street and West Street towards the Promenade. He was wearing some quite distinctive clothing including a cream jacket, a cream woolly hat and a rucksack so hopefully someone will have seen him.”

A road closure was in place on Marine Road West between Alexandra Road and Regent Road whilst officers conducted their initial enquiries.
