Parking petition plea from park residents

Barry Smith and other residents of Westcliffe Park Homes claim parked cars on Westcliffe Drive are causing a dangerous situation by blocking the view of cars pulling out of the park home site, emergency vehicles are finding their way through is blocked and even the postman is having trouble delivering letters.

Barry, who has lived in his park home for a year and a half, said: “They started building houses across the road and workmen are parking on Westcliffe Drive; there is an agreement with the football ground to put cones out on match days .

“It’s dangerous and there have been a few near misses with residents due to the parked cars, I have sent my petition signed by 33 residents to the police, and I have given a copy to Councillor Janice Hanson. It’s ridiculous.”

A spokersperson for Adactus Housing Group, who are building houses next to The Globe, said: “There are clear guidelines for all contractors and subcontractors to adhere to while working on the Westgate development. A site manager is responsible for health and safety and oversees all work taking place on site along with the movement and parking of any vehicles.

“While the works continue on this development, we strive to ensure that minimal disruption is caused, and the health and safety of nearby residents and our team remains our top priority.

“We have raised the residents’ concerns over parking to the manager on site.”

A spokesman for Lancashire County Council said: “Introducing new traffic regulations is not usually supported by residents as it limits parking availability throughout the day.

“However we would ask people to report any concerns about safety so that we are aware of them and can consider any further action.”
