Costain are urging drivers to familiarise themselves with alternative routes and plan their journeys ahead.

Andrew Langley, Costain project director, said: “A series of similar closures are going to be needed as we progress with the reconfiguration of junction 34, the traffic management is essential for schemes that tie-in to existing road networks.”

During the closure southbound traffic on the M6 will be diverted to junction 33 at Galgate, where drivers will be guided to re-join the M6 north and return to junction 34 via the northbound carriageway and exit.

Drivers wishing to join the southbound M6 at Caton Road will be diverted north on the M6 initially to junction 35 at Carnforth, where they will turn around and re-join the motorway returning south where they can continue their onward journey.
