Figure in the Landscape is a city son to be proud of

This week's column is about the very talented John Waite, who comes from Lancaster and is, in my opinion, the city's brightest and most gifted star.

If you listen to any of his albums, you will be impressed on all levels, but his voice is particularly special, rivalling the greatest singers on planet Earth. With a range of styles from ballad to rock, John manages to capture our moods and emotions, often with a poetic finesse. His 2001 album Figure in a Landscape is simply gorgeous and very sensitively drawn, as well as showcasing just how talented this singer is. Since then he's gone on to produce several albums, all good, including In Real Time (2010), Rough and Tumble (2011) and Best (2014).Since the start of his success back in 1983 with huge hit Missing You, John has toured extensively all over the world, including Europe. He has also spent time in Italy and gigged in Milan several times. His latest project is the Wooden Heart Acoustic Tour where he returns to his acoustic roots. John says, “We are trying to do as many Wooden Heart shows as we can this year. There’s a lot of interest and the demand seems to be taking us out for longer periods. It’s not as easy as it looks. “Smaller shows are intense and you wind up talking to the front row! “Rock shows are a whole different animal; they have an energy all of their own. I’ve always loved the acoustic side of music too. It’s where I started from. “It looks like a good year and we’re putting more dates together now.”Words from the great man himself. He is a whirlwind of talent and energy, constantly producing more beautiful sounds for us to enjoy and has a huge fan following all over the world. Not bad for a Lancaster lad who has worked tirelessly to achieve this success. You can follow him on Facebook and Twitter for all his latest news and his website – johnwaiteworldwide.com - keeps fans up to date.A true gentleman as well as truly great. Our John Waite.
