Morecambe’s distinctive red heritage bus has ‘vanished’ off the road amid a business dispute.

Mystery surrounds the whereabouts of the open top bus which was used by owner David Lord for hire for weddings and special occasions.

David has been forced to cancel bookings.

Recently students from Morecambe Road School were left without transport for their prom,

Couples who had booked the bus for their weddings have had to find alternative transport.

Gwyneth Owen, of Heysham village, whoo booked the bus six months ago, was told two weeks before her wedding that she couldn’t have the bus .

She said: “It turned out ok but it is the fact they are not telling people.”

Staff at Morecambe Road School were told two days before the Year 11 prom that the bus was unavailable due to ‘mechanical failure.’

David said: “It’s a legal dispute.

“Everybody affected has had a full refund and I have done everything in my power to provide alternative transport.

“I have been trying to get the issue sorted and I have now voluntarily surrendered my licence and I am not taking any more bookings.

“It’s a very awkward situation.

“The bus was taken from the depot in Carnforth and I haven’t seen it since.

“I’m not very happy about it but the business is solvent.”

David’s daughter Katy said: “I have never seen my dad so upset and its been painful for us all to see.

“The bus is like a second child to him because his father and grandfather drove the bus .

“The bus is family to us.

“We didn’t really want to believe it was gone. We’ve given a full refund or alternative transport to all our customers. It’s killing us all.

“We have no idea where it is and we have scoured places for the bus but it has just vanished.

“How can you lose a big red bus?

“We have done everything we possibly can to get the bus back.

“My dad is too proud to admit how much pain it is causing him. The light has gone from his eyes. All his goals are in the bus and he has lost another child.”

David Lord’s ex business partner Paul Smith declined to comment at the time of going to press.
