Fundraiser and singer Frank West, who has died aged 84, was still entertaining audiences until a few weeks before his death.
Frank was in a singing group with two of his sons, Peter and Tony, and some friends. They performed regularly at care homes for the elderly and even in declining health, Frank insisted on doing his shows because he didn’t want to let anyone down.
That was the kind of man Frank was, well-respected and loved by everyone who knew him. One of seven children, he was born in Bentham on April 8 1930.
He moved to Lancaster as a child and attended Cathedral School. As a singer, he raised money for many local charities. He was also a regular Father Christmas at various venues in the area, a member of the British Legion and the Grand Lodge England of the Buffalos.
Frank was also heavily involved with local amateur groups, and was still helping front of house with Morecambe Amateurs up until a few months ago.
A carpenter by trade, Frank was a family man through and through. He was married to Eva, who passed away several years ago, and had six children, 23 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter.
