A Lancaster University boss is among 611 women recognised in the New Year Honours by Her Majesty The Queen.

Lesley Waite, of Morecambe, deputy manager of the faculty of arts and social sciences, was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to higher education and to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

Stephen Bernard Darby, of Lancaster, received an MBE for services to international aid and Lancashire’s chief fire officer, Chris Kenny, was awarded a Queen’s Fire Service Medal (QFSM).

Lancashire Police Deputy Chief Constable Chris Weigh and Detective Sgt Neil Fowler picked up The Queen’s Police Medal (QPM) for services to policing.

And Sgt Pete Sculpher received an MBE for services to policing and the community.
