The mural, which depicts shops and a street scene from the present day and brings back memories of past eras, was painted by Bob Pickersgill who has produced similar murals in Morecambe Market and at Carnforth Station.

The 32 foot mural brightens up a corner of Yorkshire Street where a building had been demolished and hoardings installed and took Bob about seven weeks to complete at his home in Morecambe.

“It was impossible for me to be absolutely accurate because when I was doing my research, I received conflicting information and some businesses had moved from one part of Yorkshire Street to another over the years so I chose to paint what I thought were the most interesting features,” said Bob.

West End Million agreed to fund the mural as one of its priorities is to invest its £1m of National Lottery money in improving the West End. It aims to brings together local talent, ambitions, skills and energy from individuals, groups and organisations who want to make the area better.
