The new car park for shoppers in the West End will now be subject to a three-hour maximum stay limit.
Parking wardens will patrol the Parliament Street car park and fine any vehicle found staying over the three hours.
Lancaster City Council agreed the restriction, which includes a no return
within six hours, to operate from 8am until 6pm, Monday to Saturday.
The new year-long temporary car park opened last month after pressure from traders for the council to provide extra parking spaces for shoppers.
According to a council report, the West End Partnership, West End Community and Traders Association and retailers were all consulted and 78% were in favour of the three-hour limit.
