New mayor of Lancaster takes office

The new mayor of Lancaster has begun his year in office.

Councillor Robert Redfern took over from Jon Barry at a ceremony on Friday at the packed Ashton Hall in Lancaster.

Coun Redfern has represented Skerton East Ward for 17 years. He has been deputy mayor twice to Coun Roger Sherlock in 2009/2010 and to Coun Sheila Denwood in 2012/2013. His wife Linda was deputy mayoress on both occasions. Linda will be supporting her husband as Mayoress. They have two daughters Nicola and Donna.

The Mayor’s charity for his year in office is Diabetes Services at Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

Coun Redfern has lived in Lancaster all his life and attended Ryelands Junior and Skerton High Schools and worked at Nairn Williamson and Lancashire County Council.

Coun Carla Brayshaw will be deputy mayor for 2016/17.
