The Post Office is to open a new Post Office ‘local’ service at Heysham Post Office.
The service, which will launch at 1pm on Monday February 8, will be provided at an open-plan counter in the store at 52 Middleton Road, where the Post Office terminal will sit alongside the till.
The Post Office service will be available during the store’s opening hours, 8am-9pm Monday to Saturday and 8am-5pm on Sunday.
Residents and business customers will be able to access a wide range of services, including Special Delivery, Local Collect, home shopping returns and online banking cash deposits and withdrawals.
Other services include withdrawals using a Post Office Card Account, sending funds abroad using Moneygram, and customers can also pay bills, pre-order travel money, apply for travel insurance and top up mobile phones.
The opening hours, which will increase by an extra 33 hours and 30 minutes a week, will ensure that the branch is much more convenient for users with more choice of times to visit.
Heysham Post Office will have to close at 5.30pm on Monday February 1 for the refurbishment to take place.
During this short period of closure Post Office services may be accessed from any convenient Post Office branch, including Heysham Central Post Office at 400 Heysham Road and West End (Morecambe) Post Office at 57 Marine Road West.
Julie Kemp, area manager, said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.
“We are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs.
“This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and will secure services for the future.
“The investment marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”
