The Morecambe Bay Independents have a new leader.

Councillor Geoff Knight has taken over from Roger Dennison as head of the MBIs, who have two seats on Lancaster City Council and eight on Morecambe Town Council.

Councillor Knight has represented Heysham Central on Lancaster City Council since 1995. He was recently re-elected at the local elections.

“I am proud of all that the MBIs have achieved for Morecambe and Heysham, without our presence the town would have little or no voice on Lancaster City Council,” said Councillor Knight.

“Independents throughout the country suffered as a result of the recent local elections being held on the same day as the General Election. The MBIs were no exception and we lost some experienced and dedicated councillors.

“Twelve years ago we were the largest group on Lancaster City Council, I am confident that we will establish that position again.”
