New band to burst onto festival scene

A SLICK operator on Morecambe’s vintage rock ‘n’ roll scene has formed a brand new band.

Eddie Robbins and the Sunbeams are ready to burst out onto the local festivals scene this year including a gig at the Tutti Frutti 1950s festival.

But first they will debut at Jukebox Jive at Smokey O’Connor’s pub on Saturday, March 31.

The smoothly-dressed Eddie Robbins (real name Stuart Waggetts) has wowed fans of 1950s rock with his solo sets at Tutti Frutti and Jukebox Jive in recent years.

He will be joined by lead guitarist Neil Harrison, bassist Ollie Bray and drummer Chris Britton.

“I have found that the formation of a band of this genre within this area was a must and a natural progression of my own career,” said Eddie.“We want to keep Morecambe rockin’ with an authentic 1950s British rock n roll sound.

“Our music is covers of 50s rock ‘n’ roll with a specific British feel predominant in such classic songs from Cliff and the Drifters, Tommy Steele, Johnny Kidd, Vince Taylor and Billy Fury, and also other songs from the great Eddie Cochran, Johnny Cash, Ritchie Valens, Elvis and more.”
